[hybrid Workshop] New Frontiers in the History of the Occult in Japan: Magic, Psychical Science, Pseudo-history (in Japanese)

How have “magic,” “psychical research,” and “pseudohistory” been discussed and transmitted in Japanese society?

The Graduate School of International Cultural Studies at Tohoku University, in collaboration with the East Asian Network for the Academic Study of Esotericism (EANASE), will host the hybrid workshop “New Frontiers in the History of the Occult in Japan: Magic, Psychical Science, Pseudo-history.”

Three early-career researchers from Tohoku University will present their latest findings, with Hidehiko Kurita of Bukkyo University serving as commentator. Together, they will shed new light on little-known dimensions of Japan’s occult history.

Date: 7 August 2026 (Fri.), 2 pm-4 pm (JST)
